Teenager Arrested After Vehicle Pursuit in Sunnyside

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Sunnyside Police were called to a theft of a vehicle in progress in the 700 block of E Grant Ave in Sunnyside.

A witness followed the vehicle until responding officers located the vehicle on Alexander Rd near Midvale Rd. The suspect, upon seeing the responding officers accelerated to over 100 MPH. Officer's then initiated a pursuit that continued east on Alexander Rd, then south on Waneta Rd. The suspect / driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, where the suspect / driver was taken into custody. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

 

The pursuit was just less than two miles and there were no injuries or damage to vehicles. The arrested was identified as a 14 YOA male, from Sunnyside. It is undetermined at this time if he is a gang member. Upon further investigation by the officers, it was determined that the victim had left the keys to the vehicle in the ignition, while it was parked at their residence. 

The male was held and then later transferred to the Yakima County Juvenile Detention Center with the requested charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Eluding.
