PASCO, Wash. --The Columbia Basin Badger Club hosted a legislative debate today between incumbent State Representative Brad Klippert and his challenger Jay Clough.

Klippert is seeking a third term this November, representing the 8th Legislative district in Olympia. The two ate lunch side by side, and engaged in some kind words for one another, but when it came down to their differences, it all boiled down to political parties.

Representative Klippert says it's been hard to get things done in Olympia with the majority of lawmakers being democrats, especially balance the budget. "Republicans have a plan to get a balanced budget that's sustainable, that won't require special sessions to get the work done," he says of the major difference between himself and his opponent.

While Clough says, even though he is a Democrat, he is very conservative about government spending and taxes. He does however think it's important to invest in our future.

"This community needs investment to grow and to thrive and a future that will most likely have less Hanford in it, than more," he says.

One thing both men have in common is their stance on abortion, both men are Pro-Life. Clough however supports marriage equality while Klippert believes marriage should be between one man and one woman.
