A Kennewick man is assaulted after trying to stop a burglary

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- A Kennewick man was assaulted early Sunday morning when he tried to stop a burglary.

The twenty-one year old man saw three teenage males go into a neighbor's garage on the 1800 block of West 16th Avenue.

He confronted the teens and they began hitting and kicking him in the stomach and head. The suspects fled the scene and left the man with minor injuries.

Police want to remind people to call them to handle the suspects.

"This is a priority one crime. Officers would respond immediately to that. How we can best be helped in a situation like this is to stay in a safe place, call 911, be our eyes for us and let the officers actually make the contact with the suspects," says Corporal Glenn Ball, Kennewick Police Department.

Corporal Ball says in these situations someone can get hurt, especially if the other person has a weapon. He says the best thing to do is call police when you see something and stay on the line to describe what you see, but allow police to handle the situation.
