Kennewick barbeque celebrating union workers

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Local unions honored their workers on Labor Day with a free barbecue at Columbia Park in Kennewick.

A committee filled with several union workers organized the event by inviting local members of every union in the state. The unions donated money for all the food and volunteers helped to serve it. Organizers say around one thousand people made it out to the event.

"We're the people that build America. We're the people that when you go to the hospitals, we're the ones taking care of you. We're the ones that teach your kids. To celebrate all different forms of labor unions and guilds is a good event," says Pete Nicacio, event organizer.

Besides the barbecue, Monday's family event also included a bouncy house, a live band and a motorcycle show and shine.
