Firefighters put out morning house fire on Cherry Ave in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Firefighters in Yakima responded to a house fire this morning along Cherry Avenue.

The first calls came in around 10:15. A person walking along the 1300 block of Cherry saw some smoke coming out of the home and immediately called 911.

Firefighters had to cut a hole in the home's roof to put out flames in the attic. Firefighters were able to get the fire out quickly and prevent it from spreading.

"Once we arrived on the scene we noticed we did have a working structure fire and no injuries, no occupants," says Yakima Fire Captain Brandon Dorenbush.

At least 20 firefighters responded to the blaze. Investigators are working to figure out what started the fire, and how much damage was done.
