Richland City Council to discuss suggestion hillside condos be scaled down

RICHLAND, Wash.-- Richland City Council is expected to make a decision Tuesday night on some proposed hillside condos near the Meadow Hills development that's causing quite a stir with neighbors.

The tiered hillside condos that are planned in south Richland have some neighbors concerned about how the development will impact the area. They believe the plans should be scaled down and a city council committee is making a similar suggestion.

Currently, the developer, TMT Homes, wants to change the zoning of the development site to allow for the large condo structures. A Technical Advisory Committee looked at the developer's plans and recommended they build about ten fewer condos and scale down the size of the overall development.

"Some of the same issue that staff identify. The size and the mass of the buildings. By reducing the number of units we've reduced the traffic. We've reduced the size of the buildings. It may be a better fit in the neighborhood," says Rick Simon, City of Richland.

Tuesday night's meeting could go a number of ways. They could vote to approve the zoning change or deny it. They could also accept the committee's recommendations or they could set all new standards for the project.

The city council meeting starts at 7:30 Tuesday night at Richland City Hall.
