Perry Tech receives national award

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's Perry Technical Institute has earned a national award for excellence.

They're one of only 17 schools across the country to receive the honor. The award comes from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges and is based on graduation and graduate employment rates.

School Trustee and State Senator Curtis King says nearly 85 percent of students at Perry find jobs after college.

"In this economy, of anything greater than to be able to go to a technical school and have a very great assurance that when you graduate, you're going to get a job," says King.

King says the technical college has grown over the past few years from an enrollment of just under 400 students to more than 600 now.
