Yakima woman shot while lying in bed

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- A 68-year-old Yakima woman was shot in the leg this morning while asleep in bed.

Yakima police say several gunshots were heard around 7am on the 200 block of North Ninth Street. A person living at the home went to check on her children and grandparents and she realized her grandmother had been shot.

A neighbor says gunshots are something she's gotten used to.

"I'm kind of used to gunshots now. But, it's scary. I don't want a gunshot to go through my walls and hit my son. I don't know what I'd do," said Emily Johnson who lives nearby.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Right now, police have no suspects but they are investigating.
