Toppenish High School Principal named best in the country

TOPPENISH, Wash.-- Students at Toppenish High School already know they have a great principal, but they had no idea he was the best in the country.

In fact, Principal Trevor Greene didn't even find out until he walked into the gym this morning and was greeted by loud cheers.

Judges selected Greene as the National High School Principal of the Year because of his work to create new engineering and biomedical courses and making it possible for students to earn 30 college credits before they graduate.

Community members, state lawmakers, and Greene's family all attended today's special event.

"It feels wonderful, it's very exciting, I'm very proud of him and all the hard work that he's done," says Greene's Wife Melanie.

"I know everyone here is proud of him and knows the hard work that he puts in and is glad that Toppenish can have the award," says Greene's Daughter Peyton.

"It has my name on it, but nothing happens without a collective effort," says Trevor Greene.

It's the first time the award has gone to a principal in the northwest.

Greene will also get a $5,000 grant to invest in a school project.
