Next week is telephone assistance awareness week in washington.
The goal is help washington residents maintain access to basic phone services. The week is part of a national effort and is sponsored by the state utilities and transportation commission.
Residents who are eligible for certain public-assistance programs are entitled to receive local telephone service for about $8 per month. The program also provides a reduced or no-cost service installation for qualifying households that do not currently have telephone service.
