Restoring military vehicles

BENTON CITY, Wash.-- Restoring old military vehicles may seem like just a hobby to outsiders, but it's actually an international business of keeping a part of history alive.

A group of men who buy and restore old military vehicles in the Mid Columbia region, displayed some of them Saturday at the Benton City Daze. They say they find the vehicles off Craigslist, on the side of back roads and even off Google Earth images. Most of the vehicles are from World War II and take research to find out the how to best restore it.

Vietnam veteran Lawrence Lucas says he takes pride in working on the old vehicles.

"It's very much a part of my history. And my family's history. It's just passing that on. It's keeping it alive and fresh," says Lucas.

Tracking down the vehicles and parts is popular across the U.S. and Europe. There's even a Military Vehicle Preservation Association.

If you want to see some of these vehicles, a couple of them will be on display at Bergstrom Aircraft on September 21st for a fundraiser.
