Davis High School renovation plans change after bids too high

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima School District will have to change its plans for remodeling Davis High School.

The board of directors rejected all contractors' bids last week because they exceeded the budget several million dollars. The district will go back through their plans and look for places to cut costs. Superintendent Elaine Beraza says they're focusing on keeping improvements the school has needed for a long time.

"The classrooms now are woefully lacking. Some are, like, 400 square feet. You almost can't get the kids and the instructor in the classroom. So, wanted to make certain that we had appropriate classroom spaces," says Dr. Beraza.

The district will likely choose to use some cheaper materials and cut out some non-essential improvements like a remodel of the auditorium entrance.

They plan to reopen the bidding by October 9th.
