Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Sunday September 16th
This Sunday, September 16th is Mexico's independence day and the start of el mes de la herencia Hispanic or Hispanic heritage month which ends October 15th.
Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the many contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States and celebrates Hispanic heritage and culture.
It was started in 1968 by President Lyndon Johnson. Several latin American countries will also celebrate their independence day including: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Chile.
The largest celebration in the state of Washington will occur this weekend at the Puyallup Fair which includes a concert with Enrique Iglesias. Last year this event had over 60,000 attendees.
