Event this weekend helping teens to drive safer

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Research shows that the first few years on the road are the most dangerous for teen drivers.

That's why State Farm is hosting an event this weekend in Yakima to promote safety.

It's called "Celebrate My Drive". Teens can get input from driving instructors and police officers, and also enter their school into a contest for a $100,000 grant.

Organizers say it's important to remind younger drivers to keep safety in mind.

"We get wrapped up in a lot of events and we get busy and you forget to stop and think what's it gonna take for us to get home safely from whatever we're doing," says Mike O'Halloran with State Farm.

The event is happening this Saturday at the intersection of Nob Hill and 24th Avenue.

It goes from ten am until two in the afternoon. To learn more about the school grant, click here.
