Organix Company in need of more dairy partners

Sunnyside, WASH.--A company that specializes in turning cow manure into compost is in need of more Yakima County dairy partners.

Organix, based in Walla Walla, sells over 100,000 tons of their product a year to landscapers, vineyards and other crop growers.

One of the owners of Organix, Russ Davis, said business is booming, which is putting pressure on their resources.

"We've added dairies in the last 4 to 5 years. We've gone from three to four dairies to I think almost 21 dairies."

Genny DeRuyter, one of the owners of DeRuyter's Brother Dairy and a partner with Organix said, "They're taking one of the nutrients that's produced from our dairy operation and turning it into something that has a lot of value for a lot of different people."

Davis said using cow manure over commercial fertilizer is more environmentally friendly because it feeds the soil, not just the plant.
