SIGN's Conference Brings Hundreds of Surgeons Worldwide to RIchland

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash.- Hundreds of surgeons from around the world are in Richland for SIGN's Orthopaedic Surgical Implant Training Conference.

SIGN Fracture Care International provides surgeons in developing countries a less expensive procedure to fix patients with broken bones.

It's the 12th year SIGN's held this International Orthopaedic Conference.

SIGN Fracture Care International Founder, Dr. Lewis Zirkle says the implant's success is in part to surgeons passing along the program and training to other surgeons worldwide.

Dr. Zirkle says, "I was in Vietnam and I saw the inequality of fracture care.  I believe strongly in equality in all aspects of life and its unequal care throughout the world.  We knew that we could just talk about it, but we had to supply the implants to implement the ways to make equality of fracture care throughout the year."

Dr. Henry Ndasi from the Republic of Cameroon says, "SIGN provides us the opportunity to be able to charge less as doctors and provide the treatment to the patients."

These orthopaedic surgical implants are manufactured in Richland and paid for by local donations.
