Pacific Power warns to watch for power lines while winterizing

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Fall is officially here and many people will start getting their yards ready for winter.

However, Pacific Power says that increases the risk of a run-in with electricity. They say homeowners often climb up high to prune trees or clean out gutters in the fall, putting them closer to overhead power lines.

The company says people need to watch their step and also keep an eye on what's around them.

"It's very important for homeowners to be very alert and aware of potential dangers when they're out getting their homes and yards ready for winter," says Jan Mitchell with Pacific Power.

The company says homeowners can protect themselves by using wood or fiberglass ladders and keeping an eye out for overhead lines when you're working on the roof.

They also suggest you check to find out if there are any underground lines in your yard before you start any digging.
