Stuart fate in hands of the jury

PASCO, Wash.- A jury Wednesday afternoon started deliberating a verdict in the trial of a man accused of trying to murder his mother-in-law.

The defense rested Wednesday morning without calling any witnesses, including Todd Stuart.

Prosecutors say Stuart and his wife, Tashia Stuart, plotted to murder Judy Hebert for her inheritance.

Defense attorney Jeff Robinson says Tashia Stuart acted alone in plotting and shooting her adoptive mother in March 2011.

During the trial, a county jail inmate who shared a cell with Todd Stuart says Stuart went into detail about a plan to drop a heavy box of books on top of Hebert.

Under cross examination, Robinson accused Clint Crowder of fabricating the conversations he had with Stuart based on articles about the case he had read in the newspaper.

Robinson suggested Crowder is looking for deal in his own criminal case. Crowder has prior convictions of theft and extortion, and is awaiting trial for identity theft.

Tashia Stuart, accused of first degree murder, goes on trial next month. She claims self-defense.
