YAKIMA, Wash.-- While the housing market struggles to come back, some local home builders are turning to commercial buildings to pay the bills.
Rich Hochrein owns Summit Crest Construction in Yakima. They usually build sub-developments, but since that market slowed down, Hochrein has moved to building commercial business malls.
His newest project, "Summitview Plaza," was completed last year.
"If you have the location and you can offer them much more efficient space, it's a pretty easy sell because most of the commercial spaces are not new," said Hochrein.
He says more business owners are taking advantage of super low interest rates, and feel comfortable setting up shop in Yakima.
