PASCO, Wash.-A modern day barn raising is complete.

Second Harvest Friday opened its new distribution center in Pasco.

Union trade workers, contractors, and suppliers donated all the labor and materials for the new 14,000 square foot warehouse.

The building is three times as large as Second Harvest's old warehouse in Kennewick.

Chief executive officer Jason Clark says the larger distribution center will make it possible to feed more hungry people in the Mid-Columbia.

"The hunger issue has grown dramatically in the last several years," Clark says. "We are seeing more and more people in line at the neighborhood food bank level and our response has to be with more food, to help those families who are living on the edge of the economy right now."

Second Harvest distributed more than five million pounds of food last year. With the bigger warehouse, Clark says Second Harvest aims to distribute more than nine million pounds of food annually by 2018.
