The temperatures will cool off soon, but not every family can afford to buy winter coats for their kids. That's why our KNDU Coats for Kids drive is back and starts Saturday!
Every year NBC Right Now, Battelle, The Salvation Army and Kadlec Regional Medical Center team up collect and distribute thousands of coats for kids in our area. Each year, an average of 2,300 coats are handed out. But, it wouldn't happen without the help of the community.
"The community as a whole comes together and provides that for them which makes a difference when they go to school, when they go out to the park, dealing with the cold weather, we're able to provide a warm coat for them," said Salvation Army Spokesperson Major Julio Vasquez
Families can head to The Salvation Army in Richland from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday morning to pick up a coat.
Starting on October 2nd, families can visit The Salvation Army on North 4th St in Pasco. Coats will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-10:45 a.m. and 1:00-3:45 p.m.
Kids must show a birth certificate or medical card, and adults must have a picture ID and proof of current address.
