Ellensburg, WASH.--The Table Mountain Fire near Cle Elum is now 35 percent contained, but it continues to burn over 38,000 acres.
Crews said they're focusing their efforts around the town of Liberty, where the fuels are the heaviest.
Firefighters said they'll monitor this fire for months.
With the large amount of acreage burning combined with the tough terrain, crews said it's going to take heavy rain or snowfall to completely put this fire out.
"It's going to take a season ending weather event to really put this thing to bed," said Fire Information Officer Jim Whittington. "What we can do is, we can control the perimeter, but there's still going to be internal smolder."
Firefighters said burnout operations around Liberty Mountain will increase smoke over the weekend.
However, if operations are successful, air quality will improve over the next few weeks.
