WEST VALLEY, Wash. -- West Valley Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire in the 12800 block of Meadowbrook Road just after 6AM today.

One person inside had gotten out of the mobile home, but said another person was still inside. Firefighters tried to get into the room where the person was located, but due to the heavy fire involvement and large amount of contents in the home the search crew could not make it throughout the building and had to get in from several areas to reach different areas of the home.

After an extensive search, an elderly female was located within the structure under debris, but was pronounced dead at the scene.  The body was turned over to the Yakima County Coroner and Fire Marshal.

West Valley Fire Department responded with 4 Engines, 1 Rescue, 2 Water Tenders, 1 support apparatus, 1 investigator and 2 command officers for a total of 22 personnel.  Also assisting in the fire was ALS Ambulance Company.

The mobile home and contents were heavily damaged by the fire; at this time there is no estimated property loss dollar amount.  No other homes or structures were damaged due to the fire and crews had the fire under control at approximately 08:00.

There were no injuries to Firefighters during the fire.  The cause of this fire is under investigation, the preliminary investigation is concentrated on aluminum electrical wiring in the kitchen area of the home.

The home had zero working smoke detectors as the battery had been removed from the lone detector in the house.
