Fiesta Foods and Pepsi helping out local students

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Fiesta Foods and Pepsi-Cola presented over $11,000 in scholarship money to students in Yakima and Pasco Thursday.

The money goes to the Hispanic Academic Achievers Program which helps local Latinos pay for college.

Fiesta Foods says the money was raised through the sale of Pepsi in their stores for about three months.

The scholarship helps 40 to 50 students around Yakima and the Tri Cities go to college.

"My family doesn't, like they don't have the money to help me for college, so any money from any source really helps me just to attend college," said Josalynn Lua, a student at Yakima Valley Community College.

The Hispanic Academic Achievers Program started in the Tri Cities about 25 years ago and has since given out over a million dollars to local students.
