Table Mountain Fire almost contained

Posted: Updated:

Ellensburg, WASH.--The Table Mountain Fire near Cle Elum is still on track to be fully contained by Friday night, but firefighters said this doesn't mean we're out of danger yet.

Even though crews have the fire under control and temperatures are cooling down, cold and dry conditions can still lead to massive wildfires.

Firefighters said until there is significant rainfall or snow, we won't be clear of this drastic fire season.

Around 600 firefighters worked on the Table Mountain fFre Friday, and by Saturday morning that number will be down to 160.

Firefighters said fewer crews and resources are needed.

Evacuations have also been lifted.

The town of Liberty is now at an evacuation level 2, and all state lands to the east of Coleman Canyon Road have been reopened.

"Even though something might be opened up for hunters and those sorts of things, we recognize that it remains a high risk," said Fire Information Officer Seth Barnes. "It is very, very dry out there so we want to make sure folks realize that absolutely no campfires, be extremely careful and cautious as you enter these areas."

Firefighters are now starting to re-establish natural grasses and vegetation.

The fire charred over 42,000 acres and is not expected to have any more significant growth.

Even though the Table Mountain Fire is winding down, air quality is still an issue. In fact, Ellensburg was back to "unhealthy" levels Friday.
