Fresh Hop Ale Festival expected to entertain thousands

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WASH.--One of the biggest and most anticipated festivals in Yakima has arrived. A crowd of at least 4,000 people is expected to attend the Fresh Hop Ale Festival Saturday night.

That's quite a difference from when they started out 10 years ago. Members said their first festival attracted only 300 people, and now they're listed as one of the top ten beer festivals in America that you have to go to.

There will be 26 breweries from all over the Northwest, some wineries and local foods.

Members said the festival is not only a good way to bring in money for Allied Arts, but it also reminds everyone of the great local hops we have.

Michael Liddicoat, the Executive Director of Allied Arts said, "It's something that we know is overlooked by a lot of people in Yakima. The fact that the only place that produces more hops in the world is Germany, and Yakima, Washington is number two in the world. So the festival is just a way to remind everybody that there's something to celebrate here."

Proceeds from the festival make up 20 percent of the annual budget for Allied Arts.

The money helps pay for programs that support the arts in Central Washington.

You can still purchase tickets at the door. They'll cost you $35. The event started at 5 p.m. and goes till 10 p.m.
