Power outages in Richland and West Pasco left thousands in the dark

RICHLAND, Wash.-- Power outages hit both Richland and West Pasco this morning, which left thousands in the dark.

In Richland, it was out for two hours from Lee Boulevard to Van Giesen Street. The city electricity department found a squirrel in an electrical transformer box that caused the outage. There were nine intersection lights out as well and Richland Police posted temporary stop signs.

"We did get a lot of people calling in. It was very disruptive. We have people that are on oxygen at home that run on electricity. We had to have at lease one ambulance run for that. We had businesses that lost power," says Brian Ruegsegger, Richland Police.

In West Pasco, about twelve hundred people were without power for two hours this morning. Franklin PUD says there was a cable failure in a switch cabinet behind the Broadmoor Park Outlet Mall. The mall and nearby hotel were out of power for even longer.
