Yakima police release more information on Sunday shooting

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WASH.--Yakima Police release more information about a shooting that left a 15-year old boy seriously injured.

The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday on the 800 block of North Naches Avenue.

The victim claims it was a drive-by shooting, but police said evidence doesn't match up with his statements.

Only one shot was fired and no one else was hurt.

"We're running into some problems with this case to support the fact that it was a drive by shooting," said Captain Rod Light of the Yakima Police Department. "So it's going to take some time to work our way through the information."

Police said the victim is known for being associated with gangs.

However, at this time there is no conclusive evidence to determine if the shooting was gang related.
