State Department of Health proposes KGH and Kadlec settlement

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Kennewick General Hospital and Kadlec Regional Medical Center may reach a settlement with the State Department of Health soon.

This is after years of applications and litigation regarding the number of patient beds allowed in their hospitals.

The Board of Commissioners of Kennewick Public Hospital District met tonight at KGH to consider a settlement proposal from the State Department of Health for both KGh and Kadlec Regional Medical Center on how many hospital beds they can each have.

Both hospitals applied for a certificate of need for additional beds in 2009 and both appealed the state's certificate decision that didn't give them the number of beds they wanted.

Tuesday night the KGH board voted unanimously to accept the proposal from the Department of Health to end all appeals and litigation.

Kadlec officials said they won't discuss the terms publicly unless and until a definitive agreement is reached. If Kadlec does not agree on the proposed settlement it is unclear where things will go from there.
