Anti-Doping Agency to Release Decision on Lance Armstrong

Updated:

The United States Anti Doping Agency is set to announce their decision regarding the standing of Lance Armstrong's cycling career.

Wednesday morning the USADA announced that they will be releasing the status of their decision in the case of Lance Armstrong, as well as the evidence that helped them form their decision, later in the day.

According to the USADA's press release, 11 of Armstrong's former teammates on the United States Postal Service team gave testimony supporting their decision, as well as former team coaches and doctors.

Armstrong, who has been a heavy supporter of cancer research, announced earlier this year he no longer planned to fight the USADA's "witch hunt" against him, saying that the organization used "special" rules not followed in other cases.

Earlier this year the agency decided to strip Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles and hand him a lifetime ban from cycling. The announcement today is expected to back up that decision.

Travis Tygart, USADA CEO, after acknowledging the criticism the agency has received from Armstrong and his many followers, said in a statement "We focused solely on finding the truth without being influenced by celebrity or non-celebrity, threats, personal attacks or political pressure because that is what clean athletes deserve and demand." He added that the upcoming release will include over 1,000 pages of evidence gathered against Armstrong in what the USADA called "the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen."
