YAKIMA, Wash.-- A multi-million dollar lawsuit was filed Wednesday against the Yakima Valley Community Foundation, a local organization that provides grant and scholarship money to people around Yakima Valley.
John and Monica Colgan are the plaintiffs in the case. Colgan says he helped build the non-profit into a $50 million foundation and was forced out after standing up against a racist comment made by another foundation member.
"The past board chairman stated, about President Obama, in a committee meeting with the public there, 'what do you expect with Kunta Kinte in charge,'" said J.J. Sandlin, the plaintiff's attorney.
Sandlin says the Colgan's are seeking compensation for several reasons including wrongful termination and for a hostile work environment.
The YVCF says they are unaware of the lawsuit and cannot comment at this time.
