UPDATE: Pasco man dies after crashing car in canal

GRANDVIEW, Wash. - The Yakima County coroner has identified the Pasco man who drowned yesterday after crashing his car into a canal in Grandview as 24-year-old Islas Magana.

Police say they found Magana trapped in his car under 15 feet of water off North Elm Street.

The coroner says drowning is the official cause of death.

Police don't think anyone else was involved in the crash, but they say speed was likely a factor.


GRANDVIEW, Wash. - Dive and Rescue Teams from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Grandview Police worked to pull out a car submerged in a canal, with the driver still trapped inside Sunday morning.

Police said the accident happened around 1 a.m. on the 800 block of North Elm Street in Grandview.

Officers found the car under 15 feet of water. Police said the driver, a 24-year old man from Pasco was not able to get out of the car and died inside.

No one else is believed to be involved in the accident.

The cause is still under investigation, but police said speed was a likely factor.
