Yakima, WASH.--Two children are in critical condition after they were hit and then dragged by a car Monday morning.

Yakima Police said the two victims, ages 10 and 11, were doodling on the windshield of a car when they were struck around 8 a.m.

Police said the driver, 32-year old Benjamin McKenzie hit two cars before striking the boys, and then dragged them about 80 feet before stopping.

Both were taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The 10-year old was transferred to Harborview in Seattle, suffering from multiple fractures and head trauma.

Police said there is a strong likelihood that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Some neighbors said they have noticed some drug use in the area.

"People park in empty parking spaces and get high and stuff like that, but we just tell them to leave," said Ango Lopez. "Tell them to take it somewhere else. Me and my other neighbors just tell them to go. Go somewhere else and do that. Not here because of the kids."

David Muniz said, "People are just so careless, knowing that kids are going to school at that time. You should always be cautious towards traffic and to pedestrians of course."

The driver has been charged with vehicular assault.

Police said charges could change depending on the conditions of the boys.
