Winds of growth are slowing for the wind power industry

YAKIMA, Wash. - The winds are slowing for the wind power industry in the Northwest.

Right now, at least seven permitted projects in Kittitas and Klickitat counties are on hold, and development directors say construction has stopped.

Industry officials say wind power projects have been affected by regulation changes and market conditions, with a federal tax credit for wind energy producers expiring at the end of the year.

Wind power is also facing more competition from lower natural gas prices, and transmission lines in some places are at capacity.
