PENDLETON, Ore. A leader of a health clinic wants the city of
Pendleton to help him recruit a dozen doctors, dentists, and physician
assistants.
Cesareo Texidor of the
Center for Women and the Family says Medicare and Medicaid patients are having
severe trouble finding doctors in Pendleton, and patients at the clinic can
wait months for appointments to see the obstetrician and gynecologist.
Russell Harrison, a
doctor with Pendleton Family Medicine, says some physicians work with Medicare
and Medicaid patients but limit the number they see.
City Manager Robb
Corbett says the only city funds Texidor would be able to secure are in loans.
Texidor
says he also wants to participate in a federal program that helps doctors pay
off student loans by practicing in rural areas.
