Taylor Bridge Fire victims file lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

ELLENSBURG, Wash.-- About a dozen victims of the Taylor Bridge Fire have filed a lawsuit against the two companies who were working at the bridge when the fire started.

The suit was filed against Conway Construction and Rainier Steel in Kittitas County Superior Court by Attorney Mike Helgren.

He says both contractors didn't take the proper precautions and sparked the fire.

The state is still investigating the cause, but Helgren says he's certain that the companies did are responsible and his lawsuit will be the first of many.

"There are going to be a lot of claims and lawsuits filed ultimately and we're hopeful that by filing first, our clients will have their claims resolved first," says Helgren.

We called both contractors to get a comment. Conway Construction says they have no comment until they receive the lawsuit. We did not get a reply back from Rainier Steel.

Helgren expects at least a dozen more victims to join the lawsuit. He did not say how much they're asking for in damages.
