RICHLAND, Wash.

A local baseball stand-out who later hit the major leagues was back in the region Thursday.

Scott Hatteberg played for WSU and then went on to play for the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics. Hatteberg's career in Oakland was also part of the story line in the blockbuster film "Moneyball."

The Yakima native stopped by the Batter's Box in Richland to talk with kids from the Boys and Girls Club and work on their batting skills.

" love talking to the kids. I mean, I do as much as I can. Now I work for the A's, so some of my time is spoken for, but when I can get back and talk to these guys it's always great and coming to the East side, this is what I consider home," he said.

Thursday night Hatteberg will also speak at a fundraising dinner for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin counties.
