Benton County household waste drop off

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - A crew that specializes in household hazardous waste was at the Benton County Fairgrounds Friday and Saturday taking all sorts of things off of people's hands for free.

Benton County Solid Waste was behind the event, funded by a grant from the Department of Ecology.

"You can't put certain things in your garbage and people don't know what else to do with them. There just isn't anywhere else to go. We had a fire at our Risk facility two years ago and have not been able to build a new facility. So this is how we do it. We provide these opportunities for people," said Solid Waste Specialist Donna Holmes.

They're taking everything from paints and fertilizers to car batteries and light bulbs. The event is Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

It's only for people who live in Benton County.
