Wild horses to be rounded up and auctioned off

Posted: Updated:

PENDLETON, Ore. - Officials of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Eastern Oregon are cutting the herd of about 400 wild horses by three-quarters or more.

Tribal Officials say the horses are damaging wheat crops, rangeland, and other wild species.

The tribes have began rounding up the horses but Tribal Officials say it's going to be difficult to reduce the number of horses without slaughtering.

14 horses have already been herded into corrals and auctioned off. Five didn't sell but they will be offered free to tribal members next week.
