Commissioners close to adopting new adult business ordinance

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.-- Yakima County Commissioners held a public meeting Tuesday to get input on proposed changes to its adult business review procedure.

The county is changing its review process to comply with a recent court ruling.

If adopted, adult entertainment businesses would no longer be subject to a compatibility review, but still would only permitted in industrial areas, 800 feet from parks and schools and 400 feet from homes.

"We decided that if we were going to comply with the court's decision, we had to take the subjective part of the process out," said Commissioner Rand Elliot.

Commissioner Elliot says they hope to adopt the new ordinance next week, at which point, business owners would be able to apply to open adult entertainment businesses in the county.
