El Día de Los Muertos

Posted: Updated:

While many families will be celebrating Halloween next week, many Latin Americans will also be celebrating El Día de Los Muertos or the Day of the Dead. The two holidays may look similar but they are very different.

El Dia de Los Muertos focuses on the gathering of families and friends to pray for and remember loved ones who have died. It's celebrated in many Latin American counties and occurs on November 1st and 2nd in connection with All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.

The Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association will host its 8th Annual Dia de Los Muertos art exhibit in downtown Yakima.

"There are three tiered alters representing birth, death, and life. and they put pictures of folks that have passed away in the community on these alters and they've been decorated with items that are related to Dia de Los Muertos."

The event starts October 27th and runs through November 3rd, at 319 East Yakima Avenue. Admission is free. Visit www.yakimamorelia.org
