Pasco City Council votes to annex portion of Donut Hole

PASCO, Wash. --  Pasco's City Council voted to annex a portion of the Donut Hole area in Franklin County Monday night.

The motion passed after the City Council held a special meeting for public comment relating to annexing the Donut Hole.

Some of the residents that spoke up agreed that incorporating the area into its own city wouldn't be the best option, even Mayor Matt Watkins says it doesn't make sense.

But Pasco city council member Saul Martinez says it's about collaboration and making it one bigger, better city.

"I also believe in collaboration and one of the reasons why we'll be voting for this is because I believe we need to come together as one -- maybe if we all become county, even the city. I just believe there can be collaboration and we can make things better if we come together," Martinez said.

City staffers says the annexation process for that portion of the Donut Hole area will start January 1, 2013.
