KENNEWICK, Wash. - The National Committee for Quality Assurance is recognizing Kennewick General Hospital's Dr. Mary Feria for providing quality care to patients with diabetes.

Dr. Feria is an endocrinologist at KGH. According to the NCQA, she is the only physician in the Tri-Cities achieving this recognition.

The NCQA developed the Diabetes Recognition Program to improve quality of care; DRP Recognition is awarded to clinicians whose practices meet key diabetes care requirements. The requirements represent nationally accepted measures of care for patients with diabetes; two years of Dr. Feria's patient data were examined as evidence of her exacting care standards. According to the DRP, people with diabetes who receive quality care as outlined by key measures are less likely to suffer complications such as heart attacks, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, and amputations.
