KENNEWICK, Wash.- The
Republican candidate for Washington governor says he supports the federal
government's role in responding to natural disasters.
Rob McKenna in the
Tri-Cities Wednesday says he's been thinking a lot about what he would do if he
were Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, one of the states hardest his
by Hurricane Sandy.
McKenna
says we need a strong Federal Emergency Management Agency, but at the same time
McKenna says Washington State must be well prepared and organized for emergency
response.
"Because if there
were a disaster in the Tri-Cities, the first line of response is city and
county governments first responders here while you wait for the state to come
in and lend a hand. So we need a strong emergency operations response throughout
the system."
McKenna is currently crisscrossing the state in a RV. McKenna heads to Spokane
tomorrow.
