Construction starts on Davis High School

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Construction is officially underway on the renovations at Davis High School.

The school district held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning. School officials and several students took part in the ceremony at the site of a new math and science wing.

The project will remodel some sections of the school and tear down and rebuild other parts.

It's the last major construction project in the district, along with the new Stanton Academy and the new Eisenhower High School.

"By the end of this one, every student in the Yakima School District will in fact be attending a state of the art school and that's phenomenal. It's a great day," said Yakima School District Superintendent Elaine Beraza.

Construction will happen in phases so students can still use parts of the building during the year. The district expects to finish the remodel by 2015.

They also expect construction on the new Eisenhower High School to be complete by the summer of 2013.
