Public input needed on the future of Vista Field

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Port of Kennewick consultant Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (DPZ) of Portland is holding a series of workshops to gather input from the general community, citizens, and stakeholders regarding the future of Vista Field Airport.

The Port of Kennewick hired DPZ to conduct a Planning, Environmental and Economic Analysis study of alternatives for the Vista Field Airport, which is located within the city limits of Kennewick, Washington. As part of that study, the consultant team is working to develop the best possible scenarios for the future of Vista Field. The serial workshops offer a chance for the public to participate by sharing thoughts, ideas, insight, and suggestions, and to help create the best possible urban designs for the future of Vista Field as either an operating airport or as a redevelopment.

According to Port officials, the Planning, Environmental, and Economic Assessment of Alternatives study will help determine which option is preferred by port district taxpayers; and what those taxpayers are willing to spend in support of Vista Field. The study will complete a financial analysis and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which includes each alternative.

"We want to hear what our constituents have to say and what the tax paying public has to say. And then take their ideas and fold those into the study. What would be the best use? what it's going to cost? What does the public really want? What are they willing to pay for? That's going to be what the study is," said Skip Novakovich with the Port Of Kennewick.

After the options are studied, Port commissioners plan to share the information and let the public decide Vista Field's future using an advisory vote next year. A list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) relating to the DPZ study is posted online at:
