Richland market makes gift boxes for soldiers

RICHLAND, Wash.-- Many soldiers overseas won't be able to come home for the holidays, but some people in the community are working together to send some holiday joy their way.

Saturday at the Northwest Regional Food Hub in Richland people were working on arts and crafts to send to soldiers in Afghanistan. The creations will be sent off in gift boxes that will also include treats from food hub vendors.

"Home is saying hi to them. It's lonely there and this time of year especially. So it's kind of neat to do something as a community to some specific soldiers over there who need our support and just need to know we're thinking about them," said Dani Smart, volunteer.

Smart's daughter is serving in Afghanistan. The gift boxes will be given to her company from Joint Base Lewis-McChord on Christmas day.

If you want to be a part of this great cause, find out how at the Northwest Regional Food Hub. They're open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 to 6.
