RICHLAND, Wash. - The Richland School District Print Shop has set a new record of saving money by making copies.

For the last 6 years, teachers and staff have been printing and copying at the district's print shop, rather than in their own buildings. Teachers request an order, and the copies are delivered within a day.

Last month, the print shop did a record breaking 3.5 million copies, which is twice the usual monthly amount.

Since the shop pays a lower rate per copy, the district saved tens of thousands of dollars, but it's the teachers who really benefit.

"We're giving back their time," said Chelle Palmer, the Print Shop Manager, "they have time to really plan for their classes instead of standing in front of a copy machine, making copies for what they're going to teach, it's giving their planning period back to them."

Palmer said 81% of teachers now utilize the printing program; agreeing it's an easier and more efficient way to make copies.
