YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima Police are investigating after a man led them on a chase through the city then crashed into a house.

Police say it started on the 6400 block of Nob Hill at just before two this morning.

An officer attempted to pull over the car, but the driver took off down Nob Hill. Police followed him until he tried to turn at the intersection of Summitview and 48th Avenue.

The driver lost control of his car and slammed into the house and into a child's bedroom. Officers say thankfully the room was empty at the time.

"No one wants to hear anything tragic happened to a child, no matter any age, let alone any person, so everything turned out real well," said Yakima Police Sergeant Shelly Upton.

Police say a female passenger in the car was able to get out and run off. They still haven't located her at this time.

Officers say the 21-year old driver is known to them and they suspect he may have stolen items in his car from a retired corrections officer's house.

The driver was taken to the hospital with some broken bones and injuries to his face.
