Briann January of the world champion Indians Fever says you can do anything if you live a disciplined life.

That was just one word of wisdom the former Lewis & Clark High star left with SWX's Michelle Dapper in a sit-down interview that aired on SWX Wednesday night.

"Success is up to you, you will be as successful as you let yourself be," said January. "If you set goals and stay disciplined and do what it takes to get there you can achieve whatever you want."

January said it is finally sinking in that she and her teammates won a national championship. It is a sweet accomplishment given where she has been. After an injured ACL took her out of the lineup in her third season in the WNBA, she battled back – and so did her teammates – and helped her team win a title.

To me, that is the beauty of sport. Yes, the act of performing sport is beautiful and exciting. Playing sports and watching sports be played is entertaining and fun. But it can also be inspiring. It proves what the human mind can accomplish. It demonstrates what we – what I – can do if only I put in the effort, even when I don't want to do it.

Brian January took a difficult situation – a torn ACL – and made the most out of it.

"I learned patience, that is the biggest thing, patience with myself," she said. "It gave me a chance to sit back and see the game from a different perspective. And I became a better basketball player and a better point guard because of that."

And that, my friends is inspirational.

Congratulations, Ms. January on a national title. But even more, congratulations on overcoming difficulty and showing us how to do it well.

    Rangers Hand Seattle 8-6 Loss

Less than three weeks into the season, the Seattle Mariners' starting rotation is pretty banged up. "We've been dealt a tough hand. There's no question about it," manager Lloyd McClendon said after Thursday's 8-6 loss to the Texas Rangers, which extended Seattle's losing streak to three.
